KATHMANDU: The Secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is underway at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar.
Prime Minister Oli is also participating in the meeting, according to Baluwatar sources. Oli has agreed to attend the Secretariat meeting following a one-on-one meeting between Oli and Dahal.
Dahal had reached Baluwatar half an hour earlier to meet with Oli after getting a hint that Oli was going to abstain from today’s meeting.
Oli and Dahal held a one-on-one meeting at Baluwatar to strike consensus prior to the Secretariat meeting scheduled for today, informed Prime Minister’s Press Advisor Surya Thapa.
The Secretariat meeting scheduled for today is expected to dwell on the political dossiers tabled separately by Executive Chairman Dahal (on November 10) and Prime Minister Oli (on December 2).
There has been a political stalemate in the ruling NCP since the two heavyweights did not show any flexibilities in their stances. There had been no meetings between Oli and Dahal prior to November 10.
Second rung leaders have intensified informal meetings and dialogues to create an environment conducive for meetings between the two heavyweights so as to keep the party united.
Foreign Minister and Standing Committee Member Pradeep Gyawali reached Khumaltar this morning to facilitate talks between Oli and Dahal.
Likewise, on Friday, Standing Committee member and Energy Minister Barsha Man Pun and Chief Minister of Lumbini Pradesh Shankar Pokharel, who is considered close to Oli, held an hours-long meeting to break the ongoing deadlock.
In recent months, the ruling NCP has witnessed an intra-party dispute over the appointment of ambassadors, a Cabinet reshuffle, a dispute in Karnali Province, a vendetta among party cadres in Tarai districts, RAW Chief’s meeting with PM Oli.
