Two rhinos found dead in Chitwan

CHITWAN: Two rhinos have been found dead in the western part of Chitwan National Park (CNP).

A female rhino and its calf were found dead at Lakhauni of CNP, said Ahok Ram, assistant protection officer of the park.

They were found dead by a squad of Nepal Army during a security patrol on Wednesday afternoon.

It is likely that they were killed by poachers since the horn of the female rhino was found to have been removed, according to Ashok Ram.

As many as 11 rhinos died in the current fiscal year alone. Nine of them died of natural causes, said CNP.

According to rhino census of 2015, a total of 645 rhinos including 605 rhinos from Chitwan have died in Nepal.
