Flood sweeps hydro project canal; power production shut down



BALEWA: The monsoon rain-triggered flood and landslide have inflicted loss to the running micro hydropower project.

The landslide has taken away a canal of Khanikhola micro hydropower project at Dhorpatan municiplaity-6 in Baglung.

Project chief Gyan Bahadur Shreepali informed the power production has closed with the flood sweeping away the hydropower canal.

As many as 167 households of Chamidwar, Khanikhuriya, Kafalbot, Kamlobot, Kasungbot and Lakum have been using the electricity generated from the hydropower project.

Communication services along with enterprises have been affected in the local area following the disruption of power supply.

Shreepali said it may take 20 days for the maintenance of the project canal. Flood and landslide is a recurring problem of Khanikhola.

Floods have affected micro hydropower projects operational at Nisikhola, Jaimini municipality and Badigad rural municipality. —
