NPU demands action against those involved in misbehaving with journalists



KATHMANDU: Nepal Press Union (NPU) has asked for fair probes into the recent attacks on journalists in Banke and Lamjung districts, seeking actions against the guilty.

Ash Gurung, a journalist of Lamgunj district was manhandled by Govinda Basnet, the ward chairperson of Bensishahar Municipality-7, on July 2 over a news story published by Investigative Journalist Centre.

The Union has demanded local administration including the District Police office, Lamjung, to take action against the guilty.

Similarly, the Union has also thanked all for taking initiative to take action against those involved in manhandling and misbehaving with a journalist Tekendra Basyal of Banke district.

It also asked the bodies concerned to build environment conducive for the collection and dissemination of news in a fearless manner.
