Gorkhapatra’s GM Upadhyaya dragged to court for graft



KATHMANDU: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against four persons including the incumbent General Manager of Gorkhapatra Corporation.

The case has been filed against General Manager Basant Prakash Upadhyaya, former General Manager Sushil Koirala, then Finance Director Ram Sundar Chaudhary and Proprietor of Printcell Imaging Pvt. Ltd. Deepak Bhansali at the Special Court on Friday.

The case has been filed alleging irregularities in the purchase of newsprint.

The anti-graft body accused them of misappropriating Rs 2.6 million each.

It is alleged that the amount was misappropriated by recommending for customs exemption while purchasing newsprint.

The CIAA has demanded imprisonment of General Manager Upadhyaya, former General Manager Koirala and then Finance Director Chaudhary for four to six years and Proprietor Bhansali for two years.

The anti-graft body has also demanded confiscation of the embezzled money and a fine equal to the embezzled money.
