Janata Samajwadi Party fails to share responsibilities

KATHMANDU: The newly formed Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) has failed to reach a deal on power sharing.

A meeting of the JSP held on Thursday could not iron out differences on sharing the responsibilities among the leaders.

Top-notch leaders had held meetings on Wednesday and Thursday in an effort to share the key posts among the leaders in the newly formed party.

According to sources, they had planned to share responsibilities and submit a document of unification at the Election Commission Nepal on Friday.

Even though Samajwadi Party and Rastriya Janata Party had announced merger to form Janata Samajwadi Party on April 22, it has not been able to submit a document of unification in the Election Commission so far.

The newly formed party has to submit a party statute, a document of unification signed by the central committee members of the parties, the name of leadership and the decision of the first meeting within 45 days of the party unification as per the existing law on political parties.

Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Upendra Yadav, Ashok Rai, Rajendra Shrestha, Renu Yadav from then Samajwadi Party and Mahantha Thakur, Rajendra Mahato, Mahendra Yadav, Sharat Singh Bhandari, Anil Jha and Raj Kishor Yadav participated in the meeting representating Rastriya Janata Party.
