Minister Pokharel directs secy to assess state of Nepali students in Australia



KATHMANDU: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Girirajmani Pokharel has directed Secretary Mahesh Prasad Dahal to find out the situation of Nepali students in Australia.

The direction from Minister Pokharel comes on the heel of a suggestion by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison to international students, including Nepalis, to go back to their home countries if they are facing hardship to stay in Australia due to coronavirus outbreak.

Around 50,000 Nepali students are currently living in Australia.

PM Morrison had said that people staying in Australia under various visa arrangements and are unable to support themselves can go back to their respective countries.

He had said that it was a high time that the Australian government focused on its citizens and residents to ensure that it we can maximize economic supports the government has.
