Rangers, poachers exchange fire in Morang community forests

MORANG: Rangers and poachers exchanged fires at Salakpur community forest and Lohandra Kerabari Partnership forest in Morang district on Friday afternoon.

Acting on a tip-off that a poaching was taking place, a team of rangers and police officials deployed in the community forest exchanged fire with poachers.

According to Bishal Ghimire, chief of Division Forest Office, Morang, poachers opened nine rounds of fires on the rangers and in retaliation rangers fired seven rounds of shots.

Meanwhile, rangers have arrested three persons and recovered two home-made guns, two grams of gunpowder and some shrapnel from the incident site.

The arrested are Ganmar Bahadur Jogi, Kishan Karki of Kerabari rural municipality-8 and Kiran Dhimal of Buddhashanti rural municipality of Jhapa.

There were around 25 poachers according to Ghimire. Police said they have kept the arrested poachers at the custody of District Forest Office, Morang.
