CHITWAN: Hotels in Sauraha of Chitwan have begun sending their staff on leave as the number of visitors has declined due to the fear of coronavirus (COVID-19).

The hotels in Sauraha are currently occupied from 15 to 20 percent.

President of Regional Hotel Association Sauraha, Deepak Bhattarai, informed that there were almost 90 percent hotel booking around this period last year.

He said that although the hotel occupancy is now 20 percent as domestic events and programs are taking place, this is sure to go down after a few days.

According to Bhattarai, there are only a very few Indian, European and Nepali tourists in Sauraha now.

All advance bookings have been canceled, he said, adding that around half the number of hotels in Sauraha has sent 50 percent of their staff on leave.
