KATHMANDU: Doctors have suggested taking precautions to save oneself of infection from the novel coronavirus.

Maintaining personal hygiene, wearing a protective mask, avoiding the crowd and washing hands properly in case of contact with a sick person are the precautions to be taken, according to Dr. Hemant Ojha at the Department of Health Services.

In a briefing to Immigration Department staffers on Tuesday, Dr. Ojha said that though there are fears of infection spreading into Nepal from China, as it is a close neighbor, so far Nepal is safe from it.

He emphasized on the need for the immigration officials to take extra and special caution as they deal with the tourists.

On the occasion, WHO Nepal Representative Dr. Rubel said as the cure to the disease was yet to be found, the treatment is based on the symptoms.

Meanwhile, the government has set up a health desk at different locations in order to prevent the infection of the virus from spreading into the country.

One Nepali national returning from Wuhan, China has already been diagnosed with the virus.

A health team has been mobilized at the Tribhuvan International Airport round-the-clock for the screening of the visitors.

The situation in Nepal is however normal and there was nothing to fear about, said Director General of the Department of Immigration Iswar Raj Poudel.
