KATHMANDU: The 29th Annual General Meeting of Nepal Economic Association (NEA), a non-profit organization, has elected 15-member executive to be headed by Prof Dr Bishwambher Pyakuryal as its President for the next 3-year term, according to a NEA  press release.

The election program of the NEA was organized after the formal first session of NEA. The 29th AGM of NEA was attended by life members and general members including other senior economists as invitees. NEA is only one national organization of economists initiated 29 years ago.

After being unanimously elected as President of the NEA, Prof. Bishwambher Pyakuryal, former Nepal’s ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Newly elected President Prof Pyakuryal, senior economist and founder of NEA, opined that the association will implement new and innovative programs by engaging young economists to encourage the new generation and give a fresher look to support the economic policy issues in collaboration with the government and the development partners as an independent professional organization.

NEA plans to organize provincial dialogues in all seven provinces on national economic issues/fiscal federalism and research conference in an effective way.

Similarly, the meeting also discussed organizing its program on the national budget and other priority areas of the economic sector to explore independent views as an input for the policymakers.

As the NEA is emerging as a stronger think-tank organization, its area of work on policy advice and recommendations would turn out to be instrumental in the country’s economic activities.
