PM Oli says attempts made to impeach President

Tells ministers that party unity may not remain intact

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman KP Oli has said that attempts were made to file an impeachment motion against President Bidhya Devi Bhandari.

He also informed Cabinet ministers that he had decided to end the Parliament session after learning that party members were preparing to file an impeachment motion to oust the president.

Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Ghanshyam Bhusal said that the issue of impeachment was just a rumor.

Replying immediately, the Prime Minister said that he had proof of that.

According to a Cabinet minister, the prime minister during his meeting with ministers and ministers for state at his official residence in Baluwatar on Saturday said that that the party unity is at a critical juncture and there are slim chances that the party will now remain intact.

“I will try to save the party until the last moment, but if I don’t succeed, the party will fall apart. Everyone knows that conspiracies being hatched against me and President. Such activities cannot keep the party united,” a Cabinet minister said quoting PM Oli.

According to a minister, the prime minister said he was ready to make a decision if necessary.

“He instructed the ministers to clarify their position and prepare for a decision,” the minister said, “Even if the Prime Minister does not clarify, there is a possibility of party split or any other political decision.”

He said that the Prime Minister could take a tough decision before any decision is taken by the NCP Standing Committee meeting.

The Prime Minister was adamant that he won’t quit both the post of Chairman and Prime Minister. The prime minister made it clear that he was not in favor of resigning under any circumstances to protect the nation and the communist movement.

Earlier today, Oli reached Sheetal Niwas, the President’s Office, this afternoon to meet President Bhandari. According to a source, the President and the Prime Minister had a one-and-a-half-hour meeting at Sheetal Niwas.

The prime minister, who is also the Chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), discussed the recent political developments and internal disputes of the party and consulted with the President.

The prime minister has been holding discussions with President Bhandari in the recent days on internal feuds of the party and recent political developments.

The intra-party wrangling in the ruling party has deepened further after Prime Minister Oli reiterated his stance for not leaving both the posts during a meeting with another Chairman Pushpa ‘Prachanda’ in Baluwatar on Friday morning.

The Dahal-Nepal camp has been demanding KP Oli’s resignation to settle the current intra-party dispute.
