SC to hear eight more types of cases during lockdown



KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has decided to hear eight more kinds of cases during the lockdown period.

A full house meeting of the SC decided to allow for hearing of additional eight cases, according to SC’s Sub-registrar Devendra Dhakal.

Since the beginning of the lockdown, only habeas corpus and COVID-19 pandemic related cases were being registered and heard at the apex court.

Now cases that do not require the service recipient and writs of public concern would be heard.

The plenary of the apex court decided that the writ petitions registered during the lockdown will be heard and the cases as per Criminal Code where the concerned party or legal representative is present will be heard.

Furthermore, the case of people who are under arrest but do not have a legal counsel, the case that have their limitation expired, the case where a legal representative can be present and who are not on a general date, and cases leading to a mediation or withdrawal of cases will be heard from Thursday.
