COVID-19 cannot be taken as death cause if infected dies of other ailment

KATHMANDU: The government has said if a patient dies of other ailments despite being infected with the COVID-19, he/she will not be taken as someone to have died of the coronavirus.

The Ministry of Health and Population said so by making amendments to the Procedure on the Safe Management of the Deceased Infected with COVID-19.

According to the newly revised procedure, the deceased from the COVID-19 means someone who tested positive for the coronavirus and has died without recovery.

Even in this case, if the cause of death other than the COVID-19 is clearly proven through the clinical symptoms and signs, the deceased is not taken as some to have died from the coronavirus, reads the amended procedure.

Earlier, if the swab specimen of the deceased tested positive for the coronavirus at the time death, he/she used to be taken as a coronavirus victim.
