Cabinet meeting likely to change lockdown modality today

KATHMANDU: The government is mulling to bring changes in the lockdown’s modality.

A cabinet meeting has been called for 4 pm today to take a decision to this effect. The meeting is expected to seek alternative ways to the lockdown as Prime Minister himself is worried with the wide-ranging impact caused by the ongoing lockdown.

“Prime Minister consulted with experts from various fileds on Wednesday. The experts suggested changes in modality of the lockdown. The High Level Coordination Committee for Prevention and Control of COVID-19 has also discussed this issue,”’ said a Baluwatar source.

The government has last extended the lockdown until June 14 in order to stem the coronavirus pandemic.

People in general have been calling for change in the modality of lockdown saying that it affected not only normal life of the people but also the economic activities. The Nepal government had imposed lockdown on March 24 for the first time.
