15 police officials booked for assisting foreign nat’l for fraud

KATHMANDU: The Department of Immigration has started investigation into 15 security personnel on the charge of helping a foreign national to carry out fraudulent activities.

They have been alleged to have assisted Nigerian national James, who is currently doing time in custody, by giving him a mobile phone, said DIG   Bishwa Raj Pokharel, chief of Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari.

The investigation is underway on all the police officials deployed for the security for Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) by keeping them in number 2 battalion of Nepal Police.

The CIB had sent a letter to the MPO, Ranipokhari seeking action against 15 police officials.

The CIB, a week ago, had received a complaint that the Nigerian national had carried out a fraud by making friends online while in the custody.

The investigation shows the accused had demanded money from friends through WhatsApp by making false promises.
