BAITADI: The ward chairperson of Dilashaini Rural Municipality Baitadi, Prem Singh Dhami’s post has been declared void by the Election Commission (EC) after he left the Nepali Congress to join the ruling Nepal Communist Party.

He was elected chairperson of the rural municipality in the local election held in 2017 representing the Nepali Congress party.

Dhami quit the NC the party to join NCP.

Earlier, NC had written to the EC informing about Dhami’s party change, and had sought action against him.

The EC had written to Dilashaini Rural Municipality informing the vacancy at Ward No. 7.

Despite the notice of the EC sent on March 19, Dhami is still using the funds as an incumbent chairperson.

When asked on what basis Dhami has been abusing the resources, Akkal Bahadur Rana, the spokesperson of Dilashaini Rural Municipality, said that the municipality has yet to receive any information about the action taken against Dhami.

The EC has also notified Parashuram Municipality about revoking Janaki Devi Mahara’s post. Mahara, too, had changed her party after getting elected as the women representative of Ward No. 10.
