Celebration of Buddha Jayanti canceled in Belgium

BRUSSELS: Celebration of the 2564th birth anniversary of Lord Buddha and Peace March planned for 7th May in Brussels and Waterloo of Belgium has been canceled in view of COVID-19.

The celebration of the 2564th Birth Anniversary of Lord Buddha will not take place on 7th May 2020 in Belgium, the organizers said.

The event was being hosted by the Lumbini-Kapilvastu Global Campaign, Belgium (LKGCB), Federation of Indigenous Nationalities, Belgium and Non-Resident Nepalese Association, Belgium, according to a press statement by Campaign’s chair Damodar Prasad Acharya.

In addition, all remaining annual activities of LKGCB have been canceled. It is said that the appropriate date to conduct the 5th General Assembly of LKGCB would be communicated in line with the Belgian government’s directive to tackle the COVID-19 situation after September 2020.

This is because the Belgian National Security Council has taken a series of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country and prohibited major events until 31 August 2020.
