COVID-19 kills 122, infects 5,474 in SAARC region so far

KATHMANDU: With the coronavirus wreaking havoc across the world, the deadly virus has killed 122 people in the South Asian Association for Regional Corporation (SAARC) region as of Friday morning.

According to the latest figures collated by the Worldometer, the novel virus has killed 72 in India, 34 in Pakistan, six in Bangladesh, six in Afghanistan and four in Sri Lanka.

Maldives, Nepal and Bhutan have not reported deaths except for few cases of coronavirus so far.

 India

Coronavirus going pandemic across the world, the novel virus has killed 72 lives in India after 14 died in the last 24 hours.

With 545 new cases, the total number of infection cases has reached 2, 543, of which 191 are critical. A total of 2, 280 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals across the country.

Pakistan

Pakistan is the second-worst hit country in terms of deaths and infection cases after India in the SAARC region.

As my as 34 have died and 2, 421 have been infected due to the novel virus as of Friday morning.

The death toll has reached 34 after seven died in the last 24 hours.

With 303 new infection cases, the number of infected people has reached 2, 421 in Pakistan, of which 125 have recovered after treatment.

Currently, 2, 262 are undergoing treatment, of which nine are critical.

Afghanistan

Cases of coronavirus are increasing in Afghanistan, of late. A total of six people have died in the country due to the novel virus.

The number of deaths climbed to six after two more passed away on Thursday.

With 36 new cases were reported on Thursday, the total number of infection cases has reached 273.

Ten people among those infected have recovered after treatment while 257 are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

Sir Lanka

Sri Lank has reported four deaths after one more died in the last 24 hours in the country.

The number of infection cases has surged to 151 after five more tested for the coronavirus. Twenty one have returned home after recovery while 126 are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals. According to reports, the condition of five among those undergoing treatment is critical.

Bangladesh

Coronavirus infection cases in Bangladesh have reached 56 after two new cases were reported in the country.

The total number of deaths has climbed to six. Twenty five among 56 who are currently undergoing treatment have recovered after treatment.  The condition of one patient is critical.

Maldives

The number of infection cases in Maldives has reached 19 so far as of Friday morning. Of them, 13 have recovered after treatment while six are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

Nepal

The number of people infected with the novel virus in Nepal has reached six after one person tested for the COVID-29 on Thursday.

One person has returned home after recovery while the five are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

All the people infected with the novel virus are foreign-returnees.

It has been 11 days today since Nepal enforced a lockdown.

Bhutan

Bhutan is the least affected country by coronavirus among SAARC member states. The total number of infection cases in the country has reached five after a person tested for the COVID-19 on Thursday.

One among five infected has recovered after treatment while the four people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

With the coronavirus going pandemic across the world, the deadly virus has killed 53,068 as of Friday morning after 5, 790 died in the last 24 hours.

The total infection cases have reached 1,015,709 after 79, 100 new cases were reported in a single day. Of them, 200,348 have recovered after treatment.

Broke out in Wuhan City of China last December, the deadly virus has spread to 204 countries so far.
