COVID-19 kills 10,348 in Spain, renders 900,000 jobless   



KATHMANDU: The total number of coronavirus deaths in Spain has now exceeded 10, 300 as of Friday morning.

The death toll in the country has reached 10,348 as 961 died in the last 24 hours. As many as 112, 065 have been infected, of which 6,092 are critical.

The country, the second-worst hit in terms of deaths, has also lost nearly 900,000 jobs. Meanwhile, the US said it saw a record 6.6 million new unemployment benefit claims.

The unemployment figures are another sign of the dire impact the pandemic is having on businesses across the globe.

According to Johns Hopkins University, worldwide, confirmed coronavirus infections have crossed one million.

The university’s tracker has recorded more than 52,800 deaths globally; while more than 210,100 people have recovered.
