SC’s show-cause notice on removal of ‘Federal Democratic Republic’ from Nepal’s name

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a show-cause order against the government’s decision to write the country’s name as ‘Nepal’ instead of ‘Federal Democratic Republic, Nepal’.

After a preliminary hearing on the writ filed by advocate Subba Shrestha, the apex court issued a show-cause notice on Thursday.

The bench of Justice Mira Khadka has asked defendants to submit a written reply through the office of the Attorney General within 15 days if there is any basis for not giving an interim order as per the demand of the petitioner.

The writ petition had sought an interim order not to implement the decision of the Council of Ministers by revoking the circular issued by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
