KMC establishing sisterly relationship with municipalities in Nepal

KATHMANDU: Bidya Sundar Shakya, Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has said that emphasis has been given to the establishment of a sisterly relationship between the municipalities of the country to strengthen federalism.

Shakya said in a meeting with Mayor of Chandannath Municipality of Jumla Kantika Sejuwal on Thursday.

During the meeting, KMC Chief Shakya said that a decision has been taken to establish a sisterly relationship with Chandannath Municipality on the basis of equality in diversity, tourism, and environmental relations.

“Kathmandu has a lot of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. It is positive in itself to establish a sisterly relationship between Kathmandu, a cultural city rich in man-made heritage, and Chandannath, a remote municipality in Karnali,” Shakya said.

According to him, the KMC has established a sisterly relationship with 16 different cities of the world.

Linking the issue of international relations with the municipality within the country, Shakya hoped that the inter-municipal sisterly relationship would help make federalism meaningful and stronger.

“We have already undertaken some partnership works with 10 cities of Kathmandu, Madhyapur Thimi of Bhaktapur and Ramgram Municipality under the city-city partnership program,” he said.

During the meeting, KMC Deputy Mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi Shrestha hoped that the sisterly relationship would be beneficial for the development of mutual interests, skills, and abilities.
