Uncertainty looms over Secretariat meeting as PM Oli suspends all meetings



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has suspended all meetings after 76 people including his advisors tested positive for the coronavirus.

It has pushed the Secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) slated for Sunday into uncertainty.

The Secretariat meeting scheduled at 4 pm today to discuss the cabinet reshuffle, the appointment of ambassadors, among other contemporary issues was postponed until tomorrow.

Earlier today, Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister Oli, Bishnu Rimal, Foreign Advisor Rajan Bhattarai, Press Advisor Surya Thapa, photographer Rajan Kafle and Chief Personal Secretary Indra Bhandari were confirmed to have the coronavirus.

As many as 65 security personnel deployed at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar have been infected with the coronavirus.

A total of 28 security personnel from the Nepal Army, 19 from Nepal Police and 18 from the Armed Police Force have been tested positive.

According to sources in Baluwatar, Prime Minister Oli’s swab sample was collected on Thursday. The sources added that his report was negative.
