15 cops under investigation for helping foreign citizen in forgery



KATHMANDU: The Department of Immigration (DoI), has started an investigation on 15 police persons on the charge of helping a foreign citizen to carry out an act of forgery.

Chief at the Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari, Deputy Inspector General Bishworaj Pokharel, shared that the police persons have been charged with supporting a Nigerian citizen, who was in the custody of DoI, by providing him a phone to commit the forgery.

An investigation into the case was underway keeping the police persons at No 2 Battalion of Nepal Police after they were found helping the Nigerian national in course of investigation carried out by Central Investigation Bureau, he added.

The CIB had sent a letter at the Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari, for the action, after finding their involvement in the incident.

The complaint was filed at CIB saying the Nigerian citizen had run forgery activities through online while in custody one week ago.

Earlier, he had spent six years in jail in Nepal on the narcotic case. He was in Department’s custody due to closure international flights following lockdown as preparation had been made to deport him to Nigeria on March 23 after his VISA expired.
