CoS Giri retiring Friday, Brig Gen Hamal to be promoted

KATHMANDU: Chief of Staff (CoS) of the Nepal Army Sharad Giri is retiring. He has already informed the Nepal Army headquarters that he will go on leave 15 days before he officially retires as per the existing rule of the Nepal Army.

He will retire on June 20. Major General Ishwor Hamal will be promoted to the post of Lt. General and be appointed to the post of CoS.

Despite being appointed to the post of UN Engagement Observer, Hamal is in Nepal. He has not been able to assume this responsibility due to the lockdown.

He is the sixth general from the Nepal Army to attain the highest position in the peacekeeping mission.

He had joined the Nepal Army as a second lieutenant on November 8, 1983.
