Circular to prioritize expecting, new mothers for safe motherhood



KATHMANDU: The Ministry for Women, Children and Senior Citizens has communicated to the Ministry of Health and Population to arrange a safe delivery system for expecting mothers reaching out to the nearest hospitals or health posts for delivery.

Minister Parbat Gurung sent the communiqué on Tuesday urging the concerned agency to give continuity to the regular services to the expecting and new mothers for safe motherhood.

Stating that the expecting mothers and new mothers were the most vulnerable persons during the lockdown, the Minister called for immediate medical intervention for them during the risky times.

The Minister in the communiqué has also asked the Ministry of Health and Population to put in place arrangements for regular checkups of the expecting mothers, a continuation of vaccination, providing vitamins and supplements such as iron capsule among others.

Moreover, the Minister asked all the local health posts to supply contraceptives regularly. The recuse programs for pregnant women suffering complications for the delivery or post-delivery be continued, according to the communiqué. Also, those expecting and new mothers in quarantine should be provided with special services.
