Nepal mulls suspending int’l flights until mid-August



KATHMANDU: The government has been proposed to extend the suspension on international flights and sealing of the border until mid-August.

A draft of a modality readied for COVID-19 lockdown by the Ministry of Health and Population has proposed to extend the suspension until August 16.

According to the proposal that was readied on Wednesday, the government has been suggested to ease the lockdown restriction by dividing districts into four different zones.

The ministry readied the proposal in consultations with health experts after COVID-19 Direction Committee led by Chief Secretary directed the ministry to come up with a modality for the lockdown.

The government has currently suspended domestic and international flights until May 15. Earlier, both domestic and international flights were suspended till April 30.

Passenger evacuation flights, freighter flights, rescue flights, and other emergency flights can be operated during the period.

Nepal’s borders have been sealed indefinitely.
