PM Oli in no mood to resign now, garners majority in Secretariat

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has made up his mind not to resign from the post of PM and party chairman.

Despite the constant pressure from another chairman of the party Pushpa Kamal Dahal and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Oli has refused to climb down from both the head of the government and the senior-most post of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, the chairman.

Dahal-Nepal faction has been mounting pressure on the PM to resign from the post citing the ‘defame’ and ‘inaction’ against corruption allegations.

Dahal-Nepal faction seemed confident of making Oli kneel down. However, PM Oli known for his craft of enticing people citing their weaknesses is said to have changed the game through his personal meeting with the members of the Secretariat.

Now, with Oli’s meeting with Bam Dev Gautam and Madhav Kumar Nepal and Pushpa Kamal Dahal in person and through his channel, Oli seems to hold a majority in today’s meeting if not longer.

PM Oli has met Home Minister and member of the Secretariat Ram Bahadur Thapa and NCP Vice-chairman Bam Dev Gautam on Saturday afternoon.

With Thapa and Gautam’s change in stance Dahal-Nepal nexus is said to have gone to a minority in the Secretariat.

Prior to today’s Secretariat meeting, Oli has first met President  Bidya Devi Bhandari and later chairman Dahal.

Oli is said to have used ‘reward’ and ‘punishment’ strategy in convincing Gautam and Thapa. ‘He has offered the ‘PM’ lollypop to VP Gautam whereas has threatened to sack Thapa’ party sources said.
