Lighting kills two, injures 11



DHADING: Two people were killed and 11 others sustained injuries in separate lightning incidents strikes in Dhading and Rukum Paschim districts last evening.

Ram Singh Tamang, 40, died and two women were injured when lightning struck them at Gorgang of Khaniyabas rural municipality in Dhading.

Tamang was constructing a coop for the chickens in front of his house when he was hit by the thunderbolt.

Two women were injured in the incident, police said.

The lightning also damaged two houses at Thali of Khaniyabas. In Rukum Paschim, 13-year-old Nirmala Khatri died after lightning struck her at Triveni rural municipality-4 of Rukum Paschim on Wednesday.

Khatri, a resident of Gangadev rural municipality in Rolpa district, had come for a visit to her maternal uncle’s house in Rukum Paschim.

Eight people in the locality have been injured in the incident, it is stated. The lightning had struck the houses of Gangaram Khadka and Prakash BK at around 6.30pm on Wednesday.

Among the injured, the condition of 20-year-old Anita BK is serious, police said. The rest of the injured are undergoing treatment at a health post at Khumcheri.
