China pledges Rs 1.442 bln to repair Arniko Highway

KATHMANDU: The China government has proposed to repair Arniko Highway that connects Nepal and China. The highway had been devastated by the 2015 mega earthquake and the monsoon rains that occurred in the following years.

The China government on Sunday put forth the proposal to renovate the highway at the cost of Rs 1.442 billion, said Senior Divisional Engineer of Development Cooperation Implementation Division Laxmi Datta Bhatta.

According to the proposal, China would repair the road from Panchkhal to Kodari, especially those places damaged by the earthquake and rains.

Earlier, during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Nepal visit, China had pledged to upgrade Arniko Highway into double lane.

However, this time China would only repair the highway, not upgrade into the double lane, according to the proposal.
