DIGs in fray to become commissioner of Metropolitan Police Office



KATHMANDU: Deputy Inspector Generals of Police have started lobbying with the political leadership for their appointment in the post of Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Office, Ranipokhari.

DIGP Bishwa Raj Pokharel had been appointed as the chief of Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Office, Ranipokhari on December 18, 2019.

According to sources, newly appointed Inspector General of Police Shailesh Thapa Chhetri, who wants to keep the Nepal Police free from the political intervention, is mulling to change the commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Office.

This is the coveted post for the police officers since it is located in the capital city and through it, the commissioners get opportunities to become close to the leadership.

According to sources, IGP Thapa Chhetri is not in favor of DIG of Gandaki Pradesh Ghana Shyam Aryal and DIG of Pradesh 2 Dhiraj Pratap Singh.
