6.1-magnitude quake jolts Papua New Guinea

PORT MORESBY: A 6.1-magnitude earthquake has rocked Papua New Guinea.

The earthquake struck at 408 km North North-East (NNE) of Port Moresby at 4.46 pm, according to the local time.

The earthquake occurred with the depth 90 km, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) of Papua New Guinea said.

No casualties have  been reported so far, said the authorities.

Papua New Guinea lies in the ‘Ring of Fire’, an area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean, which is vulnerable to frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
