Government to study spread of COVID-19 infection in community

KATHMANDU: The government says it will analyze the spread of coronavirus infection at the community-level.

The Epidemiology and Infectious Disease Control Division of the Ministry of Health and Population will conduct a study whether or not the COVID-19 infection has spread in community level and of those who have no travel history.

Coronavirus has now entered into second phase in Nepal.

Transmission of the infection from coronavirus infected to another person means second-phase.

The Ministry announced that the coronavirus infection has entered into second phase after coronavirus was transmitted to another local person from the coronavirus infected person of Kailali district returned from abroad in April.

Third phase of infection means the infection spreading in the community. Director of the Division, Dr Basudev Pandey, shared that the Division has started to study whether or not the coronavirus infection has spread in community after large number of coronavirus cases have started to be seen.

Earlier in May, the Division had carried out study to know whether or not the coronavirus infection had spread in community-level in Kathmandu Valley and drawn the conclusion that it had not spread in community-level.

He said, “The index of infection shows that the infection might have spread in community-level. It will be proved only after conducting a study.”

The Division has started carrying out study with the technical support of World Health Organisation.

The Division would select employees till Friday for the study and the employees would be sent in all States after training.

Blood sample of the persons who have not gone anywhere for the past six weeks of COVID-19 infection hit places would be collected.

Antibody of women, men, children and elderly persons would be tested.

The blood samples collected in all seven states would be sent to National Public Health Lab, Teku, for test.

The team would be dispatched to all seven States to collect blood sample within next week, it is stated.
