Basnet warns of conflict if Oli is implicated, calls probe ‘biased’

KATHMANDU: Mahesh Basnet, a secretary of the CPN-UML has said there is no basis to hold party chair K. P. Sharma Oli responsible for the incidents that occurred on September 8, 2025.

Speaking to journalists after a party secretariat meeting on Saturday, Basnet said the commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki, formed to investigate the incidents, has no solid grounds to implicate Oli.

“Our chair cannot be held responsible; there is no concrete basis. If the commission indicts him, it would clearly indicate bias,” Basnet said.

He further warned that holding Oli responsible could push the country toward conflict, claiming that the public would strongly oppose such a move.

Basnet also stated that the UML would not remain silent if the government attempts any unjust actions.
