Govt discusses with private sectors on easing lockdown



KATHMANDU: The government has started homework to change the current modality of the lockdown enforced to stem the spread of coronavirus.

The High-Level Coordination Committee for the Prevention and Control of COVID-19 held a discussion with the representatives of umbrella organizations of all private sectors in Singha Durbar on Tuesday regarding changing the model of the lockdown.

Representatives of the umbrella organizations of various professions and businesses participating in the discussion urged to make arrangements for the operation of the industry saying that the problem of hunger would be worse than the problem caused by the coronavirus if the economy is not run immediately.

Stating that all the workers and investors will be affected if the lockdown is further extended, they suggested creating an environment for opening the industry by loosening the lockdown.

Participating in the discussion, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI)’s President Bhavani Rana stressed the need to run industry and business keeping in mind the situation of risk.

Similarly, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Rajesh Kazi Shrestha said that he requested to create an environment for the operation of industry and business considering the risk of coronavirus.
