Govt preparing to purchase huge quantity of medical supplies



KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to purchase a huge quantity of medical products as the infections of COVID-19 continues to rise sharply in the country.

According to Dr. Bhogendra Raj Dotel, Chief of Management Division, Department of Health Services under the Ministry of Health and Population, the infection rate is rising above the expectation prompting the government to take steps for procuring medical equipment sufficient for three months at once. Till Sunday, the number of infected had reached 1,567.

As said by Dr. Dotel, a group of epidemiologists will be formed to determine the volume of medical appliances and testing kits for procurement. ”Now the pace of infection is not at our hand. Upon analyzing the infection rate of the past few days, we can say that it will further rise.”

Lately, above 150 new cases are being recorded on a daily basis. The current infection rate is estimated to further escalate with the government decision to rescue those citizens left stranded abroad.

The Division has the stock of 170 thousand PPE, 1,400 thousand masks, 180 thousand N-95 masks, 28,000 VTM and 40,000 RDT kits. RSS
