Nepali students in Pakistan request govt for rescue

KATHMANDU: Amid the wide-spreading coronavirus, more than 70 Nepali students studying MMBS in Pakistan have appealed to Nepal government to rescue them.

More than 70 Nepali MBBS students in Pakistan panicked at the fear of COVID-19 transmission due to the opening of mosques during Ramadan have requested the government to rescue them home.

The students studying MBBS in various colleges in Islamabad have complained that the embassy there has not heeded their appeal for facilitating their journey back home.

They said that they have also informed the Foreign Ministry, but the Ministry also turned deaf ears to their grievances.

Sushil Paudel, a 2nd year student in Lahore based University Of Health Science said that the students are panicked there as the number of coronavirus cases is spiking daily.

“There are nearly 17,000 people infected in Pakistan,” he said, “The college is closed for nearly 2 months now.”

He said that the online classes are going on and added that they all want to return home as the online classes can be attended from home as well.

“We have contacted our Ambassador Sewa Lamsal, however, we feel nothing has been done by the embassy,” he added.

The students are more panicked as the Pakistan government, unlike other Muslim countries which have banned the mass prayer, has decided to open the mosque despite the coronavirus transmission threat.

Pakistan has 16,817 coronavirus cases so far. The pandemic has taken lives of 385 people.
