SP lawmaker urges govt to withdraw infrastructure development tax

KATHMANDU: Samajwadi Party (SP) lawmaker Sarita Giri has warned that her party would obstruct the House of Representatives if the government did not withdraw its decision to increase the infrastructure development tax on petrol, diesel and aviation fuel.

The government had last week decided to increase the infrastructure development tax from Rs 5 per liter to Rs 10.

Speaking at the House meeting on Sunday, Giri alleged the government of violating the parliament’s jurisdiction by deciding to increase the tax rate.

She alleged the Finance Minister for interfering in the sovereignty of Parliament and urged the government to withdraw it immediately, or face consequences.
