KATHMANDU: Hong Kong defeated Nepal by 43 runs in its second match of the ACC Eastern Region Men’s T20 Cup Cricket at Terdthai Cricket Ground, Bangkok on Sunday.
Chasing down 155 runs target set by Hong Kong, Nepal managed to get only 111 runs on the board losing all wickets in 18.1 overs.
This is a second consecutive defeat for Nepal in the tournament. Nepal had lost to Malaysia by 22 runs in its first match on Saturday.
Skipper Gyanendra Malla top-scored for Nepal at 46 runs as Kushal Malla contributed 11 runs.
For Hong Kong, Aftab Hussein took three wickets while Eshan Khan sent two Nepali batsmen back to the pavilion.
Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss, Hong Kong managed to get 154 runs on the board losing six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
Nizakat Khan top-scored for Hong Kong at 48 runs as Aizaz Khan made 29 runs.
For Nepal, Sandeep Lamichhane and Sushan Bhari took two wickets each.
With two defeats, Nepal’s chances to qualify for Asia Cup qualifiers are now slim. However, a mathematical probability is still left.
Nepal, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong are taking part in the cricket tournament. Being played under the round-robin format, the top two teams of the tournament will be allowed to play in the Asia Cup Qualifiers.
Nepal is left to play against Thailand and Singapore.
