Internal feuds resurface in NC with nomination of departmental chiefs

KATHMANDU: The internal feuds within the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) have resurfaced after President Sher Bahadur Deuba picked Chiefs for various 13 departments of the party.

Deuba picked departmental chief sans consent from a faction led by senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel which has fueled a new rivalry in the party.

The dissenting faction has also objected to the inducting of three new central working committee members.

Deuba on Saturday made nominations in the party’s 13 central departments.

Accordingly, Gopal Man Shrestha has been named as the chief of party organization department, Ramesh Rijal chief of federal affairs and state coordination department, Pharmullah Mansoor chief of Muslim department, Arjun Prasad Joshi chief of local level coordination department, Ananda Prasad Dhungana chief of financial institutions and cooperative coordination department, Ajaya Kumar Chaurasiya chief of Tarai-Madhes coordination department and Mahendra Yadav chief of transport entrepreneurs coordination department.

Similarly, Shankar Bhandari has been nominated as the chief of Tarun department, Sita Gurung chief of indigenous nationalities department, Govinda Bhattarai chief of Nepali public liaison committee coordination department, Chinkaji Shrestha chief of industry and trade department, Bishow Prakash Sharma chief of information, communications and publicity department and Shiva Prasad Humagain chief of workers and trade union department.

Among them, Humagain is close to Krishna Prasad Sitaula-led faction while others are close to the establishment faction.
