SC orders for a copy of Nepal’s map used in Sugauli Treaty

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an order to the government to present a copy of the official map of Nepal used while signing the Sugauli Treaty and the copy of the Treaty itself.

The single bench of Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal on Monday ordered the government for the same in 15 days, following a hearing of the writ petition filed by advocate Bishwa Prakash Bhandari.

” If there were any other official documents belonging to any government agencies that has Nepal’s map, then the verified copy of those documents should also be presented to the court along with the copy of annex of the 1816’s Sugauli Treaty,” reads the order.

Furthermore, the SC in its written order has ruled to present a copy of any documents, map or treaties validating the existence of sovereign Nepal that was presented while Nepal took membership of the UNO in 1955 or other international and regional organizations thereafter.

Moreover, the Court ordered the government to, abiding by the law, present the copies of any materials relating to the map of Nepal and those national or international documents with the perspective of addressing the questions relating to Limpiyadhura area in Darchula district of Nepal that could be with the National Planning Commission or any government agencies concerned with maps.

Also, the highest court in the country has ordered to integrate writ petitions of the same nature filed by advocate Kanchan Krishna Neupane and Fadindra Nepal with the one filed by advocate Bhandari.
