Oli, Prachanda engage in heated exchange of words during Secretariat meeting

KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli and Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda got involved in a heated exchange of words during a Secretariat meeting held on Tuesday.

At the beginning of the meeting, Oli said that the discussion could not take place arguing that the proposal by Prachanda was not a political report, but accusations against him.

Prachanda then protested Oli’s remarks that resulted in a heated exchange of words between Chairmen of the ruling party.

Prachanda responded by saying that the Prime Minister doesn’t have the right to stop discussions on his political dossier. After that, Oli tried to rule by saying to stay within the limits and dignity.

“No one can rule here, everyone has equal status in the committee. It moves forward according to what the committee says,” Prachanda responded.

Then only it was agreed to discuss the reports of both the chairpersons. Only General Secretary Bishnu Poudel supported Oli’s proposal to seek consensus from the meeting.

At a meeting held at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday, Chairmen Oli and Prachanda shared their views and other members briefly shared their views, said Spokesperson Narayankaji Shrestha.

Secretariat members are yet to complete their views on proposals, the meeting will continue at 1 pm tomorrow, he said.

In the political proposal submitted in the Secretariat meeting on November 13, Dahal had stated that Prime Minister Oli has to ‘sacrifice for the party and the country’.

Dahal in his political dossier has stated that the almost two-thirds majority government could not live up to the expectations of the people, failed to control corruption, irregularities, coronavirus pandemic, and maintain good governance.

Similarly, Oli in his proposal has pointed out Prachanda’s checkered past life since the insurgency and leveled various accusations against him.

On November 13, Prachanda had tabled a 19-long political proposal, pointing out at various issues on Prime Minister Oli at the Secretariat meeting.

After 10 days in the Secretariat meeting held on November 28, Oli had presented a 38-long page political dossier in response to Dahal’s proposal.

In recent months, the ruling NCP has witnessed an intra-party dispute over the appointment of ambassadors, a Cabinet reshuffle, a dispute in Karnali Province, a vendetta among party cadres in Tarai districts, RAW Chief’s meeting with PM Oli.
