KATHMANDU: Executive Chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has briefed his confidants that Prime Minister KP Oli requested him to part ways.

Prachanda said that PM Oli proposed to him so during recent meetings.

“The prime minister proposed Prachanda to part ways. Now, we have been working to keep the party unity intact,” said NCP Spokesperson Narayankaji Shrestha.

Shrestha said that Prachanda called the leaders close to him in Khumaltar and discussed the prime minister’s proposal, adding that discussion was underway at war footing to keep the party unity intact.

PM Oli is also rumored to be bringing an ordinance again to make it easier to split the party, a source claimed.

The source said, “Oli is in the race to stay in power and become powerful anyway. His desire to become prime minister even after splitting the party plunged the party into crisis. This has also been reviewed in the meeting.”

The debate in the party had escalated after PM Oli had brought an ordinance on party split and Constitutional Council last April.

Growing differences over several issues have pushed the ruling NCP once again on the verge of a split.

Earlier today, Minister for Finance and NCP General Secretary Bishnu Poudel pointed out that NCP’s unification has recently reached a critical mode.

Sharing his opinion on social media Facebook, Poudel had appealed to the party leaders and supporters to play their part to keep the party intact as the unification has reached a critical juncture.
