Nepal’s COVID-19 death toll crosses 500-mark

KATHMANDU: The COVID-19 death toll in Nepal crossed the 500-mark with 11 more deaths reported in the last 24 hours. The virus has claimed the lives of 509 persons till date.

According to the Ministry of Health, one woman and 10 men have died of the pandemic.

Men aged 56, 50 and 27 years in Sunsari, 78 and 68 years in Kathmandu, 68 years in Bhaktapur, 48 years in Lalitpur and 80, 55 and 42 years in Rupandehi died of the coronavirus.

Likewise, a 34-year-old woman in Banke succumbed to the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Ministry recorded 1,911 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. With this, the number of infected persons has reached 79,728 in Nepal.

The latest result came after the PCR tests carried out on 12,444 persons, said Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam at the press conference this afternoon.

A total of 1,033,947 PCR tests have been carried out so far.

On the occasion, it was shared that a total of 961 people returned home after recovery from coronavirus in the last 24 hours. With this, the number of people discharged after recovery has reached 57,389. The recovery percentage as of today is 71.9 percent.

The Kathmandu Valley recorded 943 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours.

Nepal currently has 21,830 active cases.

Spokesperson Dr. Gautam added that a total of 11,069 people are in home isolation, 10,761 people in institutional isolation and 5,077 in quarantine facilities.

A total of 220 coronavirus-infected people are receiving treatment in ICU and 25 with the help of a ventilator, according to the Ministry.
