KATHMANDU:  Biratnagar Metropolitan City has imposed a two-week-long lockdown in the metropolis from Saturday after coronavirus infection cases spiked.

A meeting of Biratnagar Metropolis COVID-19 Crisis Management Committee held on Friday took a decision to this effect concluding that the virus spread to the community level.

The Committee imposed the lockdown from the night of August 1 until the night of August 16 in a bid to stem coronavirus spread in the metropolis.

The lockdown has been imposed after the coronavirus spread to the community level, said Mayor Bhim Parajuli.

Birgunj Metropolitan City has imposed a prohibitory order to curb coronavirus spread since the last four days.
