EU reopens borders to 14 countries

BRUSSELS: The European Union (EU) said it will reopen its borders to travelers from 14 countries.

People from the following countries will be allowed into the EU’s 27 members and four nations in Europe’s visa-free Schengen travel zone: Australia, Algeria, Georgia, Japan, Canada, Morocco, Montenegro, Rwanda, New Zealand, South Korea, Serbia, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay, international media reports have said.

The EU is also opening borders to China soon. However, most Americans have been refused entry for at least two weeks owing to the soaring coronavirus infections in the US, reports said.

It should be noted that US tourists make up a big slice of the EU market.

The EU has said China is “subject to confirmation of reciprocity,” which means that Beijing should lift restrictions on European citizens entering China.
