Yogesh Bhattarai takes oath of office as Nepal’s tourism minister



KATHMANDU: Yogesh Bhattarai has been appointed minister for culture, tourism and civil aviation on Wednesday.

Amid a function held at the President’s Office, President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to Bhattarai.

The post of tourism minister had been lying vacant since the untimely demise of the then Tourism Minister Rabindra Adhikari.

Youth leader of Nepal Communist Party Yogesh Bhattarai was born on September 6, 1966 in Sangu of Taplejung. He is the son of Bhimlal Bhattarai and Mahendra Devi Bhattarai. He holds Master’s Degree in Sociology and Anthropology.

The Jhapa revolution took place while he was at school. The revolution had its effects in Taplejung as well, which drew him towards communist movement. His family members were also inclined to communist philosophy. He began his political career from ANNFSU in 1981 and worked in preliminary committee at the school as well as at the campus. He also took part in the Free Students Union on many occasions.

In 1995, he became the president of ANNFSU and went on to join the then UML’s central committee, along with the party’s district and zonal committees.
