Eighth National Games: 5,211 athletes to compete for 1,307 medals

KATHMANDU: Come April 18, and a total of 5,211 athletes will be competing for 1,307 medals in the eighth National Games, which will take place at different places of State No. 5.

A total of 5,211 athletes – 2,825 men and 2,386 women — will be participating in 35 games in the week-long championship, the National Sports Council (NSC) informed.

The winners of the championship will take away 327 gold, 372 silver and 563 bronze medals. Likewise, while an athlete competing in the individual category will receive a cash prize of Rs 15,000, athletes competing in group category will receive Rs 7,000 each.

Likewise, players breaking the national records will receive Rs 25,000, according to the NSC.

A total of six hundred forty team coaches and 461 team managers will be mobilized in the games.

The championship will see thirty-five different games such as boxing, chess, cricket, football, basketball, athletics, table tennis, volleyball, swimming, weight-lifting, shooting, taekwondo, golf, paragliding, among others.
