By-poll: 25% of votes cast as of 11:30 am: EC



KATHMANDU: By-election is taking place to elect people’s representatives for 52 vacant posts including a member of the House of Representatives in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

A total of 25 percent of votes have been cast as of 11:25 am, according to Raj Kumar Shrestha, spokesperson of the EC. Except few incidents including explosions in three places in Kaski-2 and Doti, the election is taking place smoothly.

Explosions took place at three voting centers in Kaski district. Bombs were detonated at Armala, Bagmare and Nawaprabhat Secondary School voting centers in the district. Similarly, bombs were found at Kucheda and Kanagada of Adarsha Rural Municipality of Doti. A bomb disposal team of the Nepal Army defused them and now the vote casting is underway smoothly in the district now.

The voting is underway in a smooth manner in Dharan Sub Metropolitan City, too. Around 20 percent of votes have been cast as of 11 am, according to Ajaya Mishra, Deputy Returning Officer.

Some disputes erupted after a ballot paper was found having no signature at Barpande Thum polling center of Pokhara Metropolitan City-33. The dispute was resolved through an all-party meeting, said Mahendra Subedi, chief at Election Office, Kaski.
