Kalanki firing: Ex-road Division Office engineer arrested with arms



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a person on Tuesday on the charge of opening fire at a house in Kalanki.

A firing went up in a three-story house belonging to Bishnu Prasad Sharma near Kalankimai Temple on Monday night. An unidentified person had fired a shot at the room where Sharma’s 20-year-old daughter was sleeping last night damaging the windowpane.

A joint police team from Metropolitan Police Crime Division and Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu arrested former engineer of Road Division Office Shubhakar Khanal for his alleged involvement in the case.
Police said they recovered two arms and 40-50 live bullets from his procession, adding that Khanal holds licenses to keep guns.

The arms have been sent to a forensic lab to confirm that fire was opened from the arms.

“We are investigating if the fire was opened from the arms Khanal holds,” a police official at Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu told Khabarhub, “Further investigation will starts once report arrives.”
Khanal is currently under the custody of the Metropolitan Police Crime Division.

The family members had informed the nearby police station immediately after the gunshot. Soon after that, the police had reached the incident site and had started an investigation into the case.
